Hey,

You're getting some excellent reviews notably since you added a little tune 'Vertigo'

Seriously top stuff, hope to catch up with you around October time, and feel the noise

Der Edge

Admin reply: Looks like you have been hiding under your little hat a little to much recently. You should get out more and join the Straigh Life quest to find what we have been looking for, which has been very difficult lately because every where we go the streets have no name !

I was expecting another variation on the standard cover material from my first exposure to 'Straight Life' at the Goat in Berkhamsted last Friday- How wrong I was?

After starting with a version of 'Can't stand losing you' by the Police followed by 'Walk this Way' from Aerosmith, I detected a sense of originality in interpretation - From a Covers band, how interesting?

As the night unfolded, I found an urgent desire to dance my little socks off to 'Sex on fire' by the Kings of Leon and got my rocks off to 'Get your Rocks off' - How very pleasant, I thought?

So, it seems chaps I'm converted! You've managed to create a unique sound playing a mix of Modern and Classic Rock- did I detect the Foo Fighters and Queen in the same set? I also enjoyed the attention of your very 'active' lead singer who managed to persuade me to join him on stage for a brief session on the tambourine - How very dare you...? Ha Ha!

Keep up the good work, see you soon!

Nikki xxx.

Admin reply: Thanks for the review Nikki, glad you enjoyed it and I'm sure we'll be back at the Goat soon SL xx

I last saw Straight Life play this venue on New Year's Eve 2008 and since then Ryan's Bar new look and feel has made it the place to meet to listen to quality acts. It's definitely become St Albans No 1 free admission venue for Live Music at weekends.

The boys themselves have taken a 'new look and feel' since my last indulgence, adding a range of bang-up-to-date songs such as "Sex on Fire' and the dynamic 'Use Somebody' from the K.O.L., tricky but cool 'Times Like These' from the Foo Fighters and 'Dakota' by the Stereophonics. This together with their varied and interesting set - who would have linked 'Fat bottom Girls' and 'We will Rock You' and pulled it off?

Straight Life display a knack of playing and delivery that you would find hard to surpass on the local pub circuits. There is genuine ability and talent in this band that made the evening on of the most enjoyable nights I've had recently.

As the great 'Galloping Gourmet' once said 'They possess all the vital ingredients, Taste, Texture and once consumed you'll be back for more!' He was refering to his 'Coq-au-vin' but the same sentiment applies to Straight Life.

Come fricassee them soon!

Thanks chaps.

Admin reply: Nice one Graham We're back at Ryan's bar to cook up a storm in October, hope to see you there! SL

... The parts other bands just can't reach!

SL are particularly impressive in the way that they manage to stay true to each song they cover without being boringly derivative (not quite sure how they manage that particular trick, but well done lads!). The other really great thing about them is that whilst they are very strong musically they really do know how to have fun. This means they're also brilliant at getting the audience to join in and sing/dance/play air guitar and just have a damn fine time.

Personal highlights from this gig were Walk this Way, Highway to Hell, Sanctuary and, just after midnight, New Years Day, but they didn't have a duff number all night.

This is the 3rd time I've seen them and they really don't seem to put a foot wrong.

Suzy Q, Sun 4th Jan 09

Admin reply: Thank Q, Suzy Q! and a Happy New Year to you too! it was quite a New Years Eve party...thanks for making the effort to write this review...see you in 2009!
